So, I have just downloaded the free trial of Captivate 2019 and have been reading through the Discussions board and a lot of the questions and answers seem to be advanced from my Novice perspective. My question is, where is a good place to start learning how to use this tool?

Thanks in advance,

Freshman

Welcome to the club!  There are a ton of tutorials among webinars in this community, YouTube videos, and individual blogs and contributions. You may also search for they type of project you want to prototype and look for specific tutorials focused on that topic, and then try to recreate it in Captivate.  Trying to create small projects by following specific tutorials is very helpful.

Owen,

I have a YouTube channel dedicated to Adobe Captivate. I also do advanced content as well, however one of my playlists is dedicated to users who are just getting started. Simply head over to YouTube and search for Paul Wilson + Adobe Captivate and you will find my channel. Feel free to subscribe and make sure you checkout the playlist for the Getting Started list of videos.

Paul

I have been using a video tutorial program through Right Management. But I would look at Lynda.com to see if they have any training videos there.

Lynda.com is no longer there, has been bought by LinkedIn and is now part of the Premium accounts. Moreover, was not very excited about their Captivate tutorials, too superficial. Beware: I am using other Adobe tutorials on LinkedIn learning daily….

BTW I posted another comment which is waiting for moderation because it has two links to documents which are already approved and located in this portal. Weird…

It looks like there will be no moderation today. Here is one link, use the search in this portal for the other one about Quiz resources.

For two of the three topics, I created a reference document, which has links to the blogs I wrote (often with embedded examples) I wrote about that topic: one for Themes, one for Quizzing. I am busy with the last one, about the Timeline. If you wish, can always have a conversation (in a Connect room) without any commitment, contact me through the contact form on my website.

The answer you’ll get can be vary different, because of our ignorance about your present skills and past with IT tools and pedagogy. As a long-time coach and trainer, I will rarely give the same advice to trainees, because my first step would be to get an idea of their skills. No one is a dummy (bad word) for learning, and an eLearning tool has a lot to do with learning. Most are looking for YouTube videos, and although those assets can certainly be part of a training, they are not always the best way. Interactive tutorials are very rare which is weird because all theories emphasize the importance of interactivity.

This doesn’t help you. My blog is often about advanced topics and use cases. However I tried to summarize three of the core topics you have to master to understand Captivate. For workflows, step-by-step you can find videos, blogs, depending on your way of learning the most efficiently.  Have a look at this post:
