12.5 version text to speech, requiring entering the text in captions, and then captions occupying half the screen as you launch the module is not a user friendly approach. Second issue -to be able to play multiple captivate courses consecutively without having to manually launch each course.
It looks like the “Text to Speech” option in the 12.5 version is only possible if you are willing to add it in the captions. My requirement is that when I launch and play the Captivate module the voice-over should start automatically without the captions covering the entire screen, which means the user should not have to turn off the captions to be able to see the content and hear the voice, is that possible? Else I am better off using a third party tool which allows me to add the audio without it opening up the captions.
Secondly, my project has about 8 modules, which means I have 8 different Captivate files. On my LMS (Bridge tool), I don’t have the option to package multiple SCORM files such that the modules play one after another. Currently each module has to be manually launched and this is not very user friendly. Do you have any suggestion to overcome this obstacle? Can a button be added and programmed such that it goes to the next module (I tried this but I don’t have any programming knowledge so couldn’t figure out a way).
In Captivate 12.5, the built-in Text-to-Speech (TTS) feature is linked to slide captions. If your goal is to include voice-over narration without automatically displaying captions, you can deselect the Closed Captions option in the Project Properties (indicated by the 📄 icon in the bottom right corner). However, there is no built-in method to completely separate AI voices from captions. If this decoupling is essential for your project, using a third-party tool for voice generation and importing the audio separately may be a better solution.
Personally, I find it beneficial that AI voices are associated with Closed Captions. Many of my clients prioritize accessible design, and knowing that AI voices will always include captions ensures I don’t forget to include them.
