A short quiz type language course using fluid boxes with CPTX file

I present here a fully functional language quiz based on a simple fluid box design. You can try the quiz here. Don’t worry if you don’t know any German at all. Following a slide with instructions in English or German the user is presented with a series of quiz slides. Each of them shows a word and the three possible German genders (der, die, das) for nouns, only one of which is of course correct. Once an option is selected, the check button […]

A vocabulary builder using a fluid boxes design

I am presenting a short vocabulary builder. You are presented with an English food word, and you can then use buttons to display the word in Portuguese and separately play a sound file speaking the Portuguese word. You can freely move within the module. I built this course using a fluid box design. I recorded and edited the sound files entirely within Captivate. The Portuguese words are contained in simple smart shapes which are initially invisible. Clicking on the ‘eye’ button will […]

Introducing volleyball referee signals – an application of fluid boxes

One of my passions is playing volleyball. Volleyball referees use a number of different hand signals, the meaning of which is not obvious in every case. Just for fun I thought I would turn a bland PDF document that explains these hand signals into an interactive and fully responsive experience, exploring the fluid box functionality a bit further. Please try out the module here. It takes only a couple of minutes to get through, whether or not you’re interested in […]

A successful application of fluid boxes in Captivate 2017

My patience has paid off! I have just published my first fully responsive Captivate project using fluid boxes. It took me a while to familiarise myself with the concept of fluid boxes, but now I’m glad I persisted, and I think that they are the best option for creating a responsive project with the least amount of fuss, provided that you keep your visual design simple. Below I discuss a few of my learnings from creating this project. It is worth spending some time […]

Uploading an e-learning module to your website

In this article I show you how to upload an e-learning module to your website. I’m using my recently completed module on discus throwing as an example. The process is not as complicated as it might seem:   Once you have completed your project, you need to package up all the necessary files via the publishing process in your e-learning authoring tool. In Adobe Captivate go to Publish and select Publish for Devices. In the dialogue box Publish for Devices […]
