jpg files turn out in very bad quality in responsive project
I am doing a responsive project in which I want to include some slides with a graphic novel. I have scanned the graphic novels as jpg-files. Now when I import those pictures into Captivate 2019 the quality gets really poor.
I have done two different slides and I get the problem in both.
1. I made a start page with fluid boxes 4 rows and 2 lines. Each fluid box includes the intro picture of a chapter and serves as a link to the following slides.
2. I made slides with one fluid box. In the box is one jpg-file with a page of the graphic novel.
In both instances the pictures are beeing extremely bad. Is there a way to import the pictures in a way that they keep a good quality?
JPEG is a compressed bitmap format with all its consequences: rescaling will always result in quality loss. Moreover you have control over the compression setting. This is missing in your question, which quality was used for the JPEG.
I rarely use that format. Whenever possible I prefer SVG, because it is a vector format, however not always possible. Try to use PNG if you need a bitmap format. Have the image in exactly the size needed for the highest browser resolution you need for that responsive project. Choose the correct setup in the Fluid box,. The loss in quality will then be minimal after switching to lower browser resolutions. You need to test after publishing and uploading to the webserver. The Preview slides doesn’t give you the full picture..
