Keeping the layout

It’s a little frustrating when you have a layout such as “Align”, “Slide Notes” and properties open, then shut down and lose all the settings. Is there a way to keep the layout when working on the same project, closing it and then opening it the next day?

Were you able to push this to the finish line? If so, how? Please update!

This is in Captivate. I work on a project for a while, close it down and then relaunch the next day. When it opens it always goes to the “default” layout which is not where I left off. I normally use the “Align”, Properties or Library as well as slide notes open. When I relaunch, they are all closed.

I suspect you are still in the newbie UI as I mentioned before. Do you have 3 buttons to the right in the Big Button Bar on top: Properties, Library and Assets? Then it is confirmed.

Switch to the Expert UI by opening Preferences and activating the option ‘Enable custom workspaces/…..’ in General Settings. You’ll have to restart Captivate.

Now you can set up workspaces.  Example: I have a workspace where I keep Timeline,Master Slide, Slide Notes in the bottom docking station, Properties, Timing, Library, Drag&Drop and Project Info in the right docking station, Advanced interaction as a floating and minimized panel. I have another one for Quizzing , where Quiz Properties is in the left docking station and Properties in the normal right one (because you often need both at the same time). Question pools added in the bottom docking station.

It will still not keep the ‘layout’ which you had when closing Captivate, but it is easy to restore a saved workspace when opening Captivate from the menu under ‘Classic’. Classic used to be one of the available workspaces before they disabled them with Captivate 8 for ‘newbies’ (bad decision IMO since the most important panel Timeline is minimized).

Do you use the Newbie UI or the Expert UI? Part of this problem can be solved by using custom workspaces. Not everything, and I have logged already multiple bug reports and feature requests about the loss of focus. I hope you mean the same thing, as in this example: I am busy with Advanced actions, so I want to have the Actions tab always active. But often I am switched to Style tab and that is very frustrating. Please support my ‘complaints’ by entering a bug report or features request.

Similar: I often use a layout grid made with guides. I want to be able to save that layout… no way.
