Hi Everyone,

I have a question about how text captions work with a screenreader.  When I enter a description into the accessibility area for a text caption, the alt text generated is a bit odd.  When reviewing the project with VoiceOver in Safari, the text is actually read off as an image.  Is this expected behavior?

I know that according to 1.4.5 you can have text in images if “for any reason, the author cannot format the text to get the same effect, the effect won’t be reliably presented on the commonly available user agents, or using a technology to meet this criterion would interfere with meeting other criteria such as 1.4.4, then an image of text can be used.”  Captivate should be capable now of rendering the text instead of an image of a text with HTML 5.  Is the going to be corrected in any future version of Captivate?  Right now I don’t see how you actually meet section 508 standards if you violate 1.4.5.

Thanks for any guidance on this.  I’m looking for a way to create fully accessible content easily to assist with projects for our EDS team, but at the moment I’m a bit stumped with the quirky behavior of text captions.
