Customizing text of Green Success Banners and Red Failure Messages
Customizing text of Green Success Banners and Red Failure Messages
I know we can change the -color- of these banners in the Edit Theme section – but can we not change the shape, and most importantly, the messaging? I would like to be able to customize the message away from the very bland green success banner and red failure banner.
Thank you, if anyone can help.
@Lisa,
Changing the Captions shape is not supported yet in Captivate. But you can change the color and background image of the captions.
Select the caption on the slide, Caption state panel and its respective PI will appear.
Under Appearance select Shape and you can change the Solid color and image background in for each in caption(Correct, Incorrect, Incomplete, etc,.)
For messaging:-
You can double-click on edit the message of each caption manually.
Or if you want to have custom messages for all new question slides, you can change the default labels in preferences as Lieve Weymeis mentioned.
The messages are not visible in edit mode, only in Preview mode. How can you double-click them in that case, please?
The only way to customize all messages at once is as I wrote by using the Preferences. But no way to have a personalized feedback message for each question slide, much less even the great Advanced Answers we had for MCQ in all previous versions
Lieve Weymeis In the Quiz PI, you click on Captions show button, Captions will appear in the slide.
Now you can select the caption, its state panel will appear, go to each state(correct, incorrect, Incomplete, etc), and change the message in each state accordingly.
I had detected that already, even changed my replies in multiple threads (and in Reddit).
However I am still struggling: which Text Style is used for the multistate Feedback object? None of the styles is highlighted and that knowledge is necessary if you want to edit the style in the project theme. It is visible in the Quick Start Projects (body3) but there is the other bug that the used fonts are not available, and that the caption style shows the replacement ‘Arial’ but on the slide it looks like ‘Georgia’?
@Lieve Weymeis, thank you, this is helpful!
I don’t like that it is an unattractive banner – I would love to be able to have an image, or speech bubble, or cartoon of a character from the course, pop up instead to deliver the good or bad news. Do we have a way to have something more visually charming appear as the bearer of ‘Y’es, exactly! or of ‘Not quite right, let’s try that one again’?
That is only one of the reasons I keep to Captivate Classic where the design control is fully in the hands of the developer. The new Captivate is meant for new users who don’t need control but want to create a course quickly. I have published more than 40 blog posts about quizzes in the previous versions and their enhancements, none of them are valid in the new Captivate.
Lieve, I appreciate your input so much. I am a new user, which is is great in some ways because I’m learning New Captivate along with everyone else. I am really hoping that with our input, Adobe will bring the New Captivate up to snuff. I agree it seems very basic, and seems as though we as course-builders should have a lot more control over the visuals.
My fingers are crossed that New Captivate will grow and improve (quickly!). We really are its beta testers which is a bit frustrating in some ways. I hope it does improve quickly because I don’t relish the thought of having instead to learn the complicated Articulate 360 instead, which is the only real viable option…
Anyhow thank you again for your input — obviously you know the Old Captivate very well and you will be a great help to us all!
Lisa, I have been on alpha and beta release, understand your frustrations. The use cases I have debugged and improved for my clients cannot be done with this new version. That is the reason I keep working mainly with Captivate Classic (which I support in many forums since 2008) and am not that fluent with the new version. I had hoped on more support here and in the Adobe forum for Captivate (where I am moderator).
Lieve, is the Adobe Captivate Forum something that I wold be able to join, to share and learn along with you all? I don’t know if this discussion/learning forum is the place where I should be sharing questions and observations, to be honest. If the forum is a better resource for me, please let me know! 🙂 Thank you so much.
Sure, here is the link. You log in with your Adobe ID:
Some questions are posted there as well as here. You’ll not have to wait that long to have anything approved in that forum. We are with a whole bunch of moderators for all the Adobe forums but I keep mostly to the Captivate forum.
It is a bit hidden, but it is possible to edit individual caption texts. Here is the workflow:
- Find the dimmed ‘Caption’ field in the PI of the Quiz slide. You’ll see that by default ‘Hide’ is activated, you need to change to Show.
- You can change the location of the Feedback multistate caption, and on each quiz slide you can edit the caption.
- The color of the text can be changed using its Text Style. However, for quiz slides added from scratch I couldn’t figure out which Text style is default. In the Quick Start Projects it is Body3, but that is not the case for the default Quiz slide. It is necessary to know the style if you want to change the font styles in the custom theme.
Lost are the Advanced Answer feature (MCQ), question pools etc… Forget control, the version is meant for quick development and keeping within the proposed design limits. For real control you still have to rely on Captivate Classic.
A shared or advanced action On Enter could take care of tweaking the Submit process and show alternative feedbacks, but both shared/advanced actions and the Enter event are lost as well. When I find some courage, will try to find a workaround but it is not easy to find that courage.
Still the same location as in previous versions.
Open Preferences. Too bad that the shortcut key is no longer the same as before, and the one indicated under Edit, Preferences is not working on my non-US keyboard (problem since alpha testing, not resolved). I have no idea where the Preferences are on a Mac this time, used to be under the Captivate menu.
Go to Quizzing, and look at ‘Default Labels’. Lot less labels than in previous version (too bad for localisation) but you’ll find Success and Failure message there. If you are using a US keyboard, you’ll have lot less issues than I do have on my Belgian AZERTY keyboard.
