New Captivate Accessibility Question: Navigating Click Simulation with Only Keyboard Controls?

For the all-new Adobe Captivate 12 (2023), I am having trouble getting the click box in the simulation training mode to respond to pressing the ENTER or SPACE key. I can TAB to it but it is not responding to any other functions on the keyboard to register a selection.

Is there a trigger that I need to input or another key that I need to press in order for the click simulation to register my selections and advance via keyboard? Right now as a workaround I’ve used hotspots and have a screenshot, however the hotspots can only be so big. Keep in mind about my course:

  • The course must allow for keyboard input.
    • Allow all functionality via a keyboard.
    • Providing the option for complete keyboard control in the e-Learning course giving learners who cannot use a mouse the opportunity to use assistive technologies that mimic the keyboard, such as speech input.

I probably was not clear enough.  Personally I estimate the software simulations in the new Captivate very limited compared with Classic Captivate.  You need to link a shortcut key to the Click boxes and the Text Entry Boxes generated during recording for Training/Assessment sims.  I didn’t test it, because all tools are dimmed on sim slides, probably because they are meant for responsive projects. A click box is inexistent in the new version, just like it was useless in Fluid Boxes projects because of the stack limitation. A Text Entry Box exists but as an interaction and is labeled Text Field. Not the same as the TEBs in a sim slide.

That is the reason I recommended to use Classic Captivate, but even more for the way ‘responsiveness’ is applied to software simulations in the new version. Can you please have a look and you’ll understand. For a Demo sim it is fine to have automatic panning/zooming when used on a mobile device, but as a former professor, that is not what you expect in Training/Assessments.

You are allowed to use version 11.8.2 on the same license. The Software simulation, Training or Assessment mode (since you mention click boxes you used one of those modes) has all the features you need which are lacking in the new Captivate sims. You don’t need to learn all about Captivate Classic, just do the recording there.

Unless you insist on a responsive project. Personally I don’t like what happens with a sim in Training/Assessment in the new Captivate because on a smaller browser resolution the sim will automatically pan to that region where the learner needs to click. That is not what you normally want in those modes. Reason is that the sim is not really responsive, just the panning takes care of using the reduced screen real estate.

So just to clarify, in its current state as of 7/27/2023, the all-new Adobe Captivate 12.0.0 (2023), software simulation for Training or Assessment mode does not allow for full functionality by only using the keyboard from what you know?

In order to do this, I would have to use the previous Adobe Classic Version 11.8.2?
