Problem Statement:

Parent certifications getting auto retired/ is it required to retire the parent certification?

Role: Admin.

Brief Description:

There are cases where admin experience that their parent certifications are getting auto retired. In few cases, the admins my feel that we can retire the parent certification to stop any more users or new users being enrolled into it.

This article explains about what happens to parent certification when the child certification gets created.

Here is what happens to the parent when the child certification gets created.

In ALM, one can retire the learning objects (courses, LP, certifications etc) to stop the new enrolment. on retired it will not be visible to the new users.

In certification workflow – once certification recurs, the system will not auto retire the parent certification however, it will not be shown to the users (By design, we hide the parent certification), the new users being enrolled will be enrolled in the latest certification (child certification)

So, there is no point in retiring it manually. However, manual retirement of certification will have no impact on the certification workflow.

See the below screenshot for more clarity on status of root/parent certification that we see in backend when the certfication (name: Certification on AI and ML) recurs.

Note: This is a recurring certification with validity of 1 month and recurring window was set to 29 days. The re-certify window is determined with the below formula:
Window Start date = Learner’s Certificate date + Validity month – Days to complete
Window End date (Re-Certificate Period) = Learner’s Certificate date + Validity month
