Simulate Illustrator

can you simulate creating things/using tools within illustrator? I’ve only seen simulations created to simulate web browsers.

i just want to know if captivate will do interactive training with illustrator or if its not capable
it will record in training mode but won’t let you in the training click on tools etc within illustrator
so almost only acts as a ‘demo’ even though i used training mode

Did you have a look at that assessment for which I offered a link? Each interactivity is scored and besides the tweaking which is always necessary, the slides are created with a software simulation project in Assessment or Training mode. Are you using that new version 12? It will also do the job to create the slides but is very limited for tweaking. The simulation I show you has been created in version 11.5.5.553, and you can also create it in 11.8. In both training and assessment mode each slide will get an interactive object on top of the captured background. That interactive object will be either a click box or a Text Entry Box. Both objects do not exist anymore in any other Captivate 12 project, but the software simulation in 12 is a copy from the older versions for creation. As I told already it is the tweaking which has been made very difficult. I think about creating the possibility for alternative workflows (menu, right-click menu,).

Alyssa32661124grq4 Yes, you may create simulations demonstrating the features in Adobe Illustrator as well. While recording a simulation, we can select the application/screen area that is to be recorded, and start recording the simulation. Below help articles about recording simulation in new Captivate and Captivate Classic might help:

OP was not asking about ‘demonstrating’ the features in AI, but about interactive training. That is the reason I explained why the sim features in the new version are at this moment too limited for several reasons. In an assessment (I have created tons of them) you need to be able to add sometimes complicated interactions for which you can use Shared actions or Advanced actions in Captivate Classic. Moreover since the sims in the new version try to mimick exactly the workflow in all previous versions which meant the presence of Click boxes and Text Entry Boxes which have both disappeared from a normal responsive project in version 12, that makes it very confusing. Moreover the exclusive focus on responsive projects (normall a simulation is non-responsive) result in having unwanted panning and zooming when switching to devices with a low browser resolution. I know that this is never meant in the user manual, which is a pity. Captivate has always been famous for its software simulations since two decades, and losing part of its features in that domain is very frustrating. I had hoped for improvements and better features.

All simulations (training/assessment mode) I have created were about software training. For passive demonstrations I prefer Video Demo (available with Captivate Classic) or Camtasia over the software simulations in Captivate. You may have a look at the assessment simulation I have published in ths platform, which was used as part of a selection process for Captivate developers:

Simulation assessment to test Captivate skills – eLearning (adobe.com)

Beware: this was created with version 11.5.5.553, it would not be possible with the new version 12.
