Project Crashing During Publishing in Adobe Captivate
(3)

In Adobe Captivate, I have created an e-learning project that includes several high-resolution images, videos, and complex interactions. When I try to publish the project, it crashes consistently, either freezing during the publishing process or closing unexpectedly. How can I troubleshoot and resolve this issue to successfully publish the project?

Whatever the version, two important questions:

  • In Preferences you set the path to the default folder for publishing. Is that folder situated on your system, not on a networked drive? Even synchronising with OneDrive in Windows can be the cause of your problem.
  • Do you have admin rights to Captivate?

To troubleshoot and resolve the issue of your Adobe Captivate project crashing during publishing, follow these specific steps:

  • Check for Corrupt Slides or Objects:
  • Step 1: Isolate the problematic slide by publishing the project in segments. Start by publishing a few slides at a time to identify if a particular slide or object is causing the crash.
  • Step 2: Once identified, remove or recreate any slide or object that causes the crash.
  • Optimize Media Files:
  • Step 1: Compress large images and videos to reduce the project size. Use image editing software to resize and compress images before importing them into Captivate.
  • Step 2: Ensure videos are in an optimized format (e.g., MP4) and consider using lower resolutions if high quality is not necessary.
  • Remove Unused Assets:
  • Step 1: Open the Library panel and identify unused assets.
  • Step 2: Delete any unused images, videos, or other media files from the library to reduce the project size and complexity.
  • Check and Adjust Publish Settings:
  • Step 1: Go to “File” > “Publish” and review the publish settings.
  • Step 2: Try changing the output format from SCORM to HTML5 or vice versa to see if the issue persists in a different format.
  • Step 3: Disable advanced actions or interactions temporarily to see if they are causing the crash.
  • Recreate Project Preferences:
  • Step 1: Go to “Edit” > “Preferences” and reset your project preferences to default.
  • Step 2: Reconfigure any necessary settings after resetting.

Which version are you using? Find the full version number under Help, About Captivate.

Keep in mind that version 12 only publishes to responsive projec. High resolution images, long video and audio clips with high settings may be unwanted and be the cause of your publish issues.  Which formats did you use,and what is the file size of your raw project?
