Audio Narration Cutting Off
(5)

Hi there!

We have noticed an issue with the audio narration in Adobe Captivate version 12.3.0. Sometimes, the audio narration stops unexpectedly when the project is uploaded and viewed in the LMS.

In Captivate, we have extended the timelines to ensure that the slide ends about 0.5 seconds after the audio narration, allowing for a small buffer. However, some users report that if they advance to the next slide and then click back to the previous slide where the audio narration cuts out unexpectedly, the audio narration works fine, which is what leads me to believe this is a possible issue within the LMS.

Any thoughts, tips, or tricks on possible solutions during the publishing stage?

Thanks so much!

I am having the same issue – regardless of whether I extend the audio and or slide time. Audio randomly cuts off when I preview and if I go back to the slide and replay in the same preview session, it sounds fine.

tonyettes38072582 – I had the chance to speak directly with Adobe about this issue. It was a very productive call, but we couldn’t reproduce the problem described in my original post because it’s happening on random slides and isn’t consistent for every user. During our official review cycles, we kept a log to check nearly every slide where users reported this issue, but we still couldn’t replicate it. Adobe suggested adding three to five spaces at the very end of the last block of Closed Captioning-Audio Narration on a slide within the project, and we’re looking into this as a possible solution.

We’ve observed something interesting. You can predict which slide it will occur because the audio narration and closed captioning are not synchronized, even though your caption play heads are correctly positioned. The closed captioning lags behind the audio narration by a second or two. Then, the audio narration stops precisely when the closed captioning finishes for that slide, as if one is trying to catch up with the other. I mention this because I’ve noticed that the closed captioning consistently ends half a second before the audio narration. So, maybe that has something to do with it.
