I am creating my first e-learning with Captivate and cannot figure out how to get the course name in the certificate? When doing a preview on the certificate I can see that it says “Captivate E-Learning Course”. But where ever I look I can not see where it gets it from via the variable $$LMS.CourseName$$. I guess it can’t be dicfficult… any idea out there?
Hi Inge73

Here to help,
Adobe Captivate Support
- Click on the Edit dropdown menu (Adobe Captivate dropdown menu on a Mac) and select Preferences.
- Click on Quizzing / Reporting
- Click on Configure next to whichever reporting standard you are using (i.e. SCORM, AICC, xAPI)
- Change the text in the field for Course Title to whatever you wish to call your eLearning module.
If you are not using an LMS, edit the text on the certificate widget to whatever you call your eLearning course.
Update: I actually got it in the end!
Thank you so much! That is really helpful and even easier than I thought 👍I actually have the same question for $$LMS.LearnerName$$. How do I get an individual name on the certificate? I created an input field and assigned that value to the field but upon testing this does not work…
Hi, the issue you’re facing with the variable $$LMS.CourseName$$ in Adobe Captivate relates to how the course name is configured and where Captivate pulls that data from. Here are the steps to ensure the correct course name appears in the certificate:
Set the Course Name in the SCORM Settings:
Go to Quiz > Quiz Preferences in the top menu.
Navigate to Reporting > Manifest (if SCORM reporting is enabled).
In the Manifest tab, look for the Title field and ensure it contains the desired course name. This title is typically what Captivate uses for $$LMS.CourseName$$.
Check the Project Preferences:
Go to Edit > Preferences (Windows) or Adobe Captivate > Preferences (Mac).
Under Project > Information, make sure the course name is correctly entered in the Project Name field.

- Modify the Certificate Widget or Interaction:
- If you’re using a built-in certificate widget or interaction, check its properties.
- Ensure the text field where $$LMS.CourseName$$ appears is referencing the correct variable. Sometimes, widgets might hardcode a default value (like “Captivate E-Learning Course”).
- Test the LMS Integration:
- If you are using an LMS, ensure the LMS is sending the correct course name. Captivate retrieves the course name from the LMS when $$LMS.CourseName$$ is used.
- If you’re testing locally or in Preview mode, Captivate may default to “Captivate E-Learning Course.”
- Manually Override the Variable (if necessary):
- If you cannot resolve the issue, you can manually override the certificate text.
- Replace $$LMS.CourseName$$ with a custom text field in the certificate that displays your desired course name.
