How do I add a hyperlink to just a few words?
Hi all – I have a project where I need to be able to link to an external website. I want the learner to see underlined words that they can select to open the website in a new tab.
The instructions given say ‘select the text, go to the Link section of the Properties panel and add the URL there’ but when I do that, it makes all of the text in the textbox a hyperlink, rather than just the text I’ve selected.
(The link then doesn’t work when I preview it locally, but I can test to see if that’s just a local issue).
Any ideas what I’m doing wrong, or any better resources on hyperlinking? Given that the output is an HTML page, I find it hard to believe that hyperlinking is so complicated.
Thanks for any help.

Hi John,
Please try the steps below:
1. Select the text > Go to Link under Visual Properties > Paste the link > Preview and check.
2. If it does not work, then create a new blank project > Insert a paragraph from Add Text blocks > Select a text > Go to link under visual properties and add the link to the same website
Now preview this test project and check. Refer to this URL for more details: https://elearning.adobe.com/2024/10/adding-hyperlinks-to-text-to-open-files-in-all-new-adobe-captivate-12-4-update-%20other-enhancements/
3. If you still get the same result, then try converting the URL to Tiny URL and then check. Refer to this link to create Tiny URL: https://tinyurl.com/. Use Tiny URL and check if the hyperlink works or not.
4. If it still does not work on a New blank project, then close CP 12.6. Go to this location: C:\Users\[username]folder\AppData\Local\Adobe
NOTE: If you do not see the AppData folder, then click on the “View” menu at the top > Check “Hidden items” on the right. Inside Adobe, there will be a folder Adobe Captivate 12.0. Rename it to Adobe Captivate 12.0.old
Now Launch CP 12.6 and check. If you still face the same issue, please email tcssup@adobe.com and we will assist you.
Thanks,
