Lorazepam is a prescription drug that is a member of the benzodiazepine class and is marketed under the name Ativan. Although its main usage is in the treatment of anxiety disorders, it can also be used to treat muscle spasms, insomnia, seizures (including status epilepticus), and as a premedication to induce drowsiness and lessen anxiety before to surgery.
