Alprazolam, a strong benzodiazepine used to treat severe anxiety and panic disorders, is found in large doses in Xanax 2 mg. It functions by amplifying the effects of GABA, a neurotransmitter that reduces anxiety and promotes relaxation by calming brain activity. Patients with severe symptoms who have not responded to smaller doses are usually prescribed the 2 mg dose.
