In the last few week’s we learned how to create a Tabbed Screen and a Click-reveal Text Screen with Adobe Captivate 5. We also learned how to embed a Captivate simulation in a PowerPoint presentation.

Now it’s time to play with some audio… So let’s see how to create a rollover audio screen.

Take a look at the screen:

Hmmm… Eager to create such a screen? Go ahead and follow these simple steps:

Let me know if you found this post useful or facing any difficulty in following these steps by leaving a comment on this post. I would also like to know if there’s some specific type of screen/interaction example you are looking for.

Happy Captivating! 🙂

Hi, I am having the same issue as Faith (post from 4 months ago), where all the audio starts to play at the beginning of the slide. There is audio on the slide and also on the rollover image box. Help?

Hi there! I am working on an e-learning application where users need to click on words to hear their pronunciaitons. Ideally, I would like users to be able to click on a word and play its corresponding audio file as well as show an image. I have managed to do this by using the technique above mentioned (rollover audio screen) and the image rollover object. My question is: How can I make things simpler by using only one rollover action?

Hi Julio,

You can use a rollover slidelet instead, which will allow you to add multiple objects inside the slidelet. Let me know if this helps.

The audio needs to be attached to the rollover text box.. not the rollover area box. Remember the rollover text box is still on the slide its just transparent.

I have audio attached to a slide and I want to add rollover slides within this slide and have audio attached to each of those rolloverslides as well. When I do this the audio on the rollover slide starts when the rollover starts in the timining. I want the audio to start when the mouse rolls over the roll over slide not start automatically. What am I missing? Can you tell me how to do this?

Can you do this with TTS or just audio files?

Did anyone discover why the audio plays as soon as the slide starts (see issues below)? I am having the same problem.

Pooja, thank you so much – such an easy solution – I was attaching the audio to the rollover box (over the image) rather than the rollover text box. All fixed. THANKS!!!

HI there,
I am experiencing the same difficulty as Darlene – audio is attached to a rollover (not the slide) and is playing as soon as the slide commences. Did anyone happen to find out why this was happening?

I tried this today and it isn’t functioning as expected. When I preview the slide, the audio starts playing even before I roll over the area. Thoughts?

Darlene, make sure you have the rollover text caption selected when you add the audio. From what you describe it sounds like you’ve attached the audio to the slide itself (read had the slide selected).

Allen, I assure you that the sound is on the rollover and not on the slide. When I select the slide, the Audio property has an “Add Audio” button. I tried this a few months ago in Captivate 4 with a Rollover Slidelet when I wanted the sound to play when the user rolled over and saw the slidelet. The same thing happened…sound played as soon as the slide was displayed. I feel like it might be a timing thing but I do not know how to fix it. In my current presentation I created 5 navigation buttons and I want the button text to be read on roll over. Instead all 5 are being read at once. It is very strange.

I have the same issue. When I add audio to rollovers, they all play as soon as the slide starts, before they are rolled over. Is there a solution? Thanks in advance!
