Adobe has a new program in place for eLearning products (Adobe Software Assurance) that genuinely excites the bargain hunter in me and I wanted to share the details here because I believe it is one of the best purchasing solutions for most people using these products. In a nutshell, you get free upgrades for two years plus free gold support and help getting started with the software. It’s a perfect deal in today’s economy because it covers the big request – keeping your software current, and gives you the bonus of gold support.
We’ve already seen the frequency of releases increase and there is every indication that we should expect upgrades and updates to come more and more frequently. The best way to ensure that you are in sync with the latest versions of the software is to either participate in a subscription program, or to purchase the new Adobe Software Assurance. One advantage of Adobe Software Assurance is that you get Gold Support on top of the extended (2 year) coverage for automatic upgrades.
One of the reasons remaining current with the latest releases is so important is because the lines are starting to blur between eLearning authoring tools and rapid eLearning content. Ditto the point by coofluence. I also upgraded to eLearning suite 6 on release and to be honest feel like I’ve paid a chunk of money to be a beta tester (we are still using 5.5 for client work as 6. has been flakey). It will add insult to injury if we’re not able to add the software assurance now it is available. Otherwise Adobe are just treating their early adopters as mugs. Hope we get an option soon….

I upgraded as soon as CP6 was released. Any plan for such people? Also, it seems that there are a lot of features needed to make CP6 truly HTML5 and mobile ready. Is the plan to cover those kind of updates? We miss the days when a CP release was a set of big new features. Now, it’s like trickle upgrade for each version (From 5 to 5.5 for example) and more money to shell out. We may see a Flash like situation where some people still continue to use Macromedia Flash 8, because it was a superb upgrade and much hasn’t change for core animation workflow since then.
I am a fan of Adobe’s workflow solutions. I just hope the upgrade cycle is less heavy on users’ pocket. I see subscriptions for CS6 as a good step in this direction.
