Dear Adobe Captivate Month-to-Month Subscriber,

We sincerely appreciate your continued patronage of Adobe Captivate. We wanted to reach out to you in advance and notify you about some important changes in the product offering expected to come into effect very soon.

Starting January 14th 2014, Adobe will no longer offer the month-to-month subscription plan for Adobe Captivate. If you have purchased a month-to-month subscription and are on the auto-renewal plan, you will be able to renew your monthly subscription for Adobe Captivate only till January 13th 2014.

If you intend to buy a new month-to-month subscription plan for Adobe Captivate, you can do so only till January 13th 2014 and continue to use the product for one month till your monthly subscription expires.

Post expiration of your month-to-month subscription plan, you can continue to buy Adobe Captivate in the following ways:

–          Buy the one-year subscription plan for Adobe Captivate ($19.99/month in North America) from Adobe.com.

–          Buy the perpetual license for Adobe Captivate from Adobe.com ($899 in North America)

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this decision might have caused you or your business.

It also seems like a “bait and switch” … get people committed to using Captivate on the monthly plan (with existing work to maintain) , then remove that option and multiply their costs. It’s the Heroin Dealer Model of running a business.

Just so that you know: we’ve been using Captivate for many years, but can’t justify the cost of upgrading all of our potential users ( designers/programmers, who use it a lot, and business staff who use it only very occasionally when building new modules for their own dept.) to the latest version.

The monthly subscription looked like an ideal solution to this – get the regular users onto an annual subscription, and pay monthly for the times when someone else needs it for a particular job. But when we went to try to sign up, we found that it has been withdrawn.
So everyone, including the people who use it a lot, just sits on an old version and doesn’t upgrade. The regular users can’t upgrade because they then won’t be able to interchange files with the occasional users. Adobe gets $0 instead of $240 per year for each regular user and $0 instead of $40 each time a departmental user needs to use the software. Congratulations …

What kind of customer service is that? Instead of keeping something that was helpful for the people that cannot afford to buy the full license they remove it? I was going to buy it but I will do articulate. Thanks

I have a feeling that Adobe are trying to kill off Captivate by driving its users elsewhere. I’ve switched to Lectors Inspire.

I purchased a month-to-month Captivate subscription on Jan 10. I received NO notification during the purchase process that the option was no longer going to be available 4 days later. When I contacted Adobe today to ask why my month-to-month subscription kept deactivating itself, they send me a link to this article. I never received any email notification about this. Truly astonishing lack of communication on Adobe’s part.

Where is the link to actually purchase the yearly subscription plan? The links on this page point back to the Captivate product page, which points back here with no link to actually purchase the subscription plan. I feel like I’m stuck on a circular loop :-/

Go to http://www.adobe.com/products/captivate ; click on the yellow ‘buy’ button on the top right. Then click on the drop down next to ‘I want to buy: ‘ and select ‘Subscription’.

Shameer,
I know this is out of your department, but the user interface to buy the subscription on the website is TERRIBLE. The options are in tiny fonts, the drop-down combo-boxes lack contrast to the background and the options to BUY or SUBSCRIBE are almost invisible.
The Adobe sales are clearly hurt from this interface. The selection options should be white or gray, about 2X taller and further apart. I snapped an image for this process below because the website interface almost guarantees that people don’t see the subscription option.
Adobe needs to look at how poor the usability of this really is. Take a look at Southwest Airlines and book a flight. Super clean where the options are needed on the Southwest site. Adobe, you can do so much better and maybe improve sales of all products that have options by fixing this too.

The process to convert from my existing subscription to a the one-year plan is not easy or convenient. Why can’t you simply use the credit card that is being billed already? Now I need to put in a request with my finance dept again, causing a significant delay. Also, it would be helpful if the “Buy” link above went to a page where you can BUY the product.

Under this plan, if you only need Captivate for two months (for example) and then you want to cancel, you pay $120. Adobe charges 1/2 of the annual fee for subscription cancellation before 12 months. Bleh.

I enjoyed the free trial but the program still needs some work, like more templates or options to customize buttons and such.

The program should be part of the Creative Cloud its not worth an additional $20 bucks a month…not yet anyway

When, I wonder, will Captivate become part of the Creative Cloud package?

I sometimes wonder if Adobe is losing the plot by continuing its never-ending search for new ways to upset hitherto loyal customers?

Does it mean that even if I don’t use captivate for say, 2 consecutive months, I would be / have paid the fees for that period?
