Captivate 2017 provides a preset device menu that allows you to preview exactly how your content will look on specific devices. This version also puts the control of this feature in your hands by allow you to add additional devices to the menu, as needed.

To use this feature:

  1. Open a responsive project in Captivate 10.device1
  2. Click on the Preview in dropdown menu icon and then click on the desired device view. Modify content as needed.

If the required device is not listed create a custom preview by:

  1. Clicking on the Custom option in the Preview in dropdown window.device_b_1_3
  2. Type the device screen dimensions in the fields to the right of the dropdown window.
  3. Then click on the plus [+] to the right of the dimensions The New Custom Preview screen will be displayed.
  4. Enter a name for the new device preview and then click the [OK]device_b_4

The new device will be listed in the Preview in dropdown menu the next time that Captivate is restarted.

What does it sometimes show the icons for each device and sometimes the dropdown menu instead?

Curtis, if you see the dropdown menu than the project is setup to use Fluid Boxes. If the device icons are displayed then the project is set up for Break Point mode. Both methods will write a responsive project, how the content is interacted with is a bit different.

I hope that this helps.

It does. I found that the layout is very different for each. I am sure there is some logic behind each method?
