I’m seeing several people on the Adobe eLearning Community and my own YouTube channel who are upset that they don’t qualify for the complimentary upgrade to Adobe Captivate 2017. Captivate 9 users qualify for the complimentary upgrade if they purchased Captivate 9 very recently. I believe that it’s approximately 1 month or less. You can check your eligibility here:

As an example, I purchased Captivate 7 very late in the Captivate 7 product life cycle. So late in fact that less than 30 days after I purchased version 7, Captivate 8 was launched. I reached out to the Adobe using the instructions from the link above and I discovered that I was eligible to receive a complimentary license upgrade.
If you fall outside of the eligibility, please remember that if you are using Adobe Captivate 9 or even Adobe Captivate 8 you still have an incredible piece of software that is capable of producing some amazing eLearning. Sure there are some great new features in Captivate 2017 and I’m looking forward to using most of them. Several of my clients will not be ready for Captivate 2017 for some time. I will continue to develop content for them in Captivate 9 as I need to maintain compatibility with the software that they are still using. Try not to fret too much.

I bought Captivate 9 in February 2017. I tried following your link and the subsequent links and forms and drop-downs through a rabbit hole or two, but could never find an answer or a way to submit my license upgrade request. Adobe – go back and review your drop-downs and give us an easy way to contact you about this. Quite frustrating.
So being an edu purchaser of a full license, late February, what are my chances for a free upgrade. I would have waited had I known a new version was coming…
Seems that the Adobe Team is not actually the Adobe Team. Perhaps Shambu Nashi could help.

This is an issue about which I’m also not too happy. I got my Captivate as a part of “Technical Communication Suite 5.” I’m a monthly subscriber to TCS with the understanding that my suite would be updated “automatically” when a “new version” is available. I thought that was one of the great advantages of monthly subscription. Wrong. After a few exchanges with the Captivate support team (great responsive people, BTW) I now have a better understanding of Adobe’s fine-print. A “new version” means not the new version of each component that makes up the TCS, but the new release of TCS as a total package. Why should Adobe decline to update the components of TCS when a new version is readily available is something I’ll probably never understand but those are the rules until they are changed.
Just to clarify, when you pay the subscription price, which is quite a bit lower than the full license price, even over time, I believe you do get each new version as well. It’s only for those who have purchased a full license that don’t get free upgrades. Am I correct?
