Static and Optional Fluid Boxes
I've been an eLearning designer and developer since 2005. In 2015 I started my own eLearning design company. I began creating Adobe Captivate video tutorials to help promote my business through my YouTube channel at https://youtube.com/captivateteacher. My intention with my YouTube videos was to attract attention from organizations looking for a skilled Captivate developer. This strategy proved successful as I've worked with clients worldwide, helping them build highly engaging eLearning solutions. In addition, my YouTube channel presented another benefit of attracting aspiring Captivate developers to seek me out as a teacher. I now offer online and onsite training on Adobe Captivate, teaching users the skills to build engaging and interactive learning.

A few of my clients who have hired me to teach them about Adobe Captivate 2017 have asked about two things they used to do when designing responsive courses and how to do the same thing using fluid boxes.

The first is the idea of having optional content. In previous versions of adobe captivate you could simply select one of your smaller breakpoints and place optional content off the stage and into the scrap area. When these projects were displayed on smaller devices the optional content would not be visible, yet that content remained for larger displays.

The second idea relates to grouping a series of objects together for alignment purposes. Sometimes you might have several items that need to stay aligned regardless of screen size. In the past grouping these objects together made keeping all the items aligned. Of course in Captivate 2017 grouped objects are not compatible with fluid boxes, so how can we do something similar?

Thank you for posting this video. I have been having some trouble with static fluid boxes and was wondering if you could help. I am currently designing a training program with three fluid boxes (top-title, middle-content, bottom-button). I placed one text caption in the middle fluid box. I made the middle fluid box a “static” fluid box, because it also contains some shapes that I would like to partially cover the text.
An issue comes up when I try to preview the project. The text and shapes and placed exactly where I want them in edit mode, but when I preview the slide the text inside the text caption increases in size while the shapes stay where they are. This is a problem because I need the shapes to align in the exact right position over the text.
Have you seen this problem, or do you have any suggestions on how to fix this? I would appreciate any advice you have.
Thank you!

I suspect this has to do with text scaling for this slide. Perhaps you could experiment with the Minimum font size check box on your slide properties panel. If you set the minimum font size to just the right font size, it may prevent it from shrinking down beyond what you need it to.

Thank you so much for your reply! I found the minimum font size checkbox in the slide properties panel. That seems like a good solution, but for some reason Captivate will not let me set the minimum font size higher than 20, and my text is bigger than that. Because of this, the text still shrinks in preview mode. It’s odd that the text shrinks at all, because it easily fits inside the textbox and really has no reason to shrink in order to fit in the space allotted to it.
Are there any other reasons that the text could be shrinking?
Thank you so much for your help!
