Captivate, A Good Tool For Andragogy

I am an instructional designer and the majority of my audiences are adult learners. Because I design and create instruction for adult learners, I have adopted Malcolm Knowles’s adult learning theory of Andragogy  as an intricate part of my design style. Instruction for adults needs to focus more on process and less on the content being taught. The most useful strategies for adult learning are case studies, role playing, simulations, and self-evaluation, and a tool like Captivate is ideal for creating such interactions.

As a contractor, almost every RFP I receive list Captivate (or similar tool) as a needed skill, this was the reason why after 7 years of not using Captivate, I joined the Adobe eLearning Community  to get caught up on the newest version, Captivate 2017. I was very happy to see how much Captivate 2017 had improved from the last version I used (which I think was version 4 or 5) and definitely an improvement from RoboDemo! Not only is it easy to create engaging instructional content, but with the Fluid Boxes now it is easy to create content that can be accessed on multiple devices. I have found that adult learners like to access their instruction whenever they have some spare time, so being able to access content on a smart phone or tablet is is plus for most adults.

I like the features of Captivate 2017. When the next release comes – it’ll be exciting to see the changes. Always adding better features. Thanks Adobe.
