I ‘m  always on the look out to try different actions and delay next action seemed a good one to try.  I have creating a Food Safety course and I wanted to put sound to a roller shutter door opening I found a good one on You Tube and converted it into an mp4. So far so good.

TIMING IS EVERYTHING..

I placed the sound in a button that had the action to go to the next slide with the shutter open, revealing the contents of a lorry,  but on preview realised that the sound was being superceded by the action.

DELAY NEXT ACTION..

I had a problem to solve (there’s probably a better workflow here, but it was my chance to use the delay action) The audio is just under 4 seconds. I placed the action in between the play audio and jump to slide actions and..voila. Sound effect plays before jumping to slide.

How would you use this action?

Thanks for taking the time to share, Chris. Perhaps someone will benefit from your idea.

Have you considered making several states of the door showing different amounts of being open? You might then play the 4 seconds of audio and delay changing the states over the length of the audio. This way you get sound as the door opens.

I once used the delay action with a phone ringing sound. I simply had it repeat every few seconds.

Greg, I like your thinking. I was planning on applying an exit effect (door image going up) that lasts the duration of the audio but I might just try your state idea. saves ‘hiding’ the shutter as it opens.

Thanks
Chris

Thanks for posting this use case Chris? I have multiple examples on my blog. One of the most recent is using Delay actions in shared/advanced actions to give feedback during D&D and have the feedback disappear automatically:

Just want to warn: Delay command, like While command cannot be paused by a pausing point nor a Pause command. I explained that in my Timeline posts, here is an interactive movie published as rescalable HTML where you’ll find that info as well:

BTW I will present twice about Timeline in DC conference on 25th of April.
