I present here a fully functional language quiz based on a simple fluid box design. You can try the quiz here.

Don’t worry if you don’t know any German at all. Following a slide with instructions in English or German the user is presented with a series of quiz slides. Each of them shows a word and the three possible German genders (der, die, das) for nouns, only one of which is of course correct. Once an option is selected, the check button becomes visible, which the user clicks to receive instant feedback, here simply in the form of a ‘thumbs up’ or ‘thumbs down’. The solution is displayed, and a sound file plays. Additionally, the points counter increases by 1 for each correct answer. The result slide displays the final points gained, and either a smiley face if the number of points is 15 or higher.

The more I work with fluid boxes the more I like this design option. It really does force you to think ahead and keep things as simple as possible.

Once again the buttons are simply smart shapes containing Fontawesome characters. The images are from Pexels.

I created the quiz slides and the results slide from scratch. The biggest challenge was setting up the advanced action for each of the 25 quiz slides. Naming all elements is crucial to do this efficiently, especially if you have a larger number of slides. I think I’ve worked out a good naming convention, and thanks to the miracle of copy & paste naming each object didn’t take up too much time.

I wanted to display some kind of progress indicator. Initially, I was thinking about creating a graphic to display in one of the boxes, but given the large number of slides I opted for a simple number display for this test course.

The screen shot below shows the fluid box design for this project. You can download a sample .cptx page here.
