How do you use quizzes?
I am currently a provider of technical training and support in the electronic manufacturing industry. My prior training and work experience as a teacher, network administrator, web design, and instructional design make me well prepared to design it, develop it, and deliver it. I am a father of five, a US Army veteran, and I enjoy playing the guitar as well as performing in local community theater.

Ok – Let’s open up this discussion. I am interested to know what folks think.

Quizzes, I think, seem to have a lot of questions associated with them on this forum. I sometimes forget about some of the limitations of quiz slides because of the way that I use them, or perhaps, the way that I don’t use them.

Personally, I prefer to keep quizzes completely separate from content.

I create lots of interactive modules that inform and reinforce content. Learners can engage as often as they need to until they feel comfortable with the topic or task. I will sometimes introduce a “knowledge check” but they are all custom and “low-stakes” so as to help the learner see where they are at without being graded.

The quiz that counts… that becomes a stand-alone module. A single slide to introduce the rules and then however many quiz slides as I need. I don’t try to fancy them up.

So I am curious… How do you use quizzes? Have you considered separating them to avoid some of the conflicts? Are you bound by any rules regarding content/quizzes where you work?

The comment box is open…

When you mention ‘quizzes’, this is a word that can cover a lot of items. The default quiz slides are indeed a favourite object on forums, I point to it as the number 2 stumbling block for newbies in https://elearning.adobe.com/2017/03/three-skills-acquire-captivate-newbies/
Reason is that lot of users don’t take time to understand the design, the embedded objects problem etc. All blog articles I ever posted about Quizzes (there are a lot of them) are very popular.
However I prefer creating custom scored slides a lot over the default quiz slides (lot of articles on my blog as well). Drag&Drop slides are sort of in between the default quiz slides and custom scored slides.
Due to my long experience as professor and trainer I never will keep assessments separate from content slides, find that old-type of coaching. But that is my personal opinion of course, was already using flipped classes before the word was invernted, used presentations before PPT appeared…
