Captivate 2017 Knowledge Check answers are cut off

I’m using Captivate 2017 and I’m including Knowledge Checks. Some of the KC answers are longer than the screen so they wrap onto a second line when I’m writing them. However, when the KCs are previewed or published these long answers are cut off; the remainder of the answer is not visible.

How do I change these answer boxes so that the complete answer is visible when the project is previewed and published?

Thanks for your help..

You’re welcome. Quizzing, TImeline and Themes are the three subjects that lead to the most questions on all forums (this is not the only one). It is the reason I have blogged so many times about them.

Once again: many, many, many “thank you’s” to both of you for the help and suggestions! I’m working on two projects that can benefit from your information, and I suspect others will benefit when they check out this posting.

Sure, formatting is exactly the same for KC as for Quiz slides. The differences are described in another article I wrote a while ago:
http://blog.lilybiri.com/knowledge-check-slides-tips

If you have enough space to make the answer boxes high enough, you don’t have to increase the answer area but it cannot hurt since it is used by all quz and KC slides.
Hoping to have a feature in the near future that allows to vote for an existing features request. Be sure that I have a long list to log.
Just ask to be able to increase the height of individual answers on the quizzing master slides, and to be able to distribute them as you have to do now on each slide.

Well, this is great news and a MAJOR help…… I’m starting on this process now. I am asking for some clarification: 1. you mention ‘quiz’, but I think the same information applies to ‘Knowledge Check’. 2. The answer area is already larger than I need. The issue is that the length of the answers is too long for one row. So, I wonder if I need to increase the size of the answer area just to be safe?….3. And, yes, I’ll launch a feature request. Stating the request with the proper Captivate terms might be a challenge. Any help would be appreciated.

The workflow I described in that artcle is also valid for normal projects. It is tedious. Try to increase first of all the answer area on the quizzing master slide to make it as high as possible. You may have to reset the master slide on already created quiz slides. The rest has to be done on the quiz slides: choose the answer with the longest sentence. Resize it so that the answer fits in it, not too sparingly in the height. Select all the other answers as well and use the right-click menu, Align, to resize them all to the same height. Move the bottom answer down as much as possible, select all the answers and use Align, distribute Vertically. Sorry, never found another approach. I would be very happy if you launched a feature request: have been logging it since version 6 to have individual placeholders for answers on the master slides, so that the described workfow could be done there, instead of repeating it on each quiz slide.

* My project is a non-responsive project.
* And it doesn’t involve devices; no tablet or mobile applications.
* I’m not trying to change the size of the box that holds the answers, but I am trying to change the individual boxes that hold each answer.

Hope this helps. Thanks for all the responses so far.

Sure, Aditya, could be but we don’t know yet if it is about a responsive or non-responsive project, if it has been created with Fluid boxes or Breakpoint views? The problem is similar, because of the inability to have a higher area for each individual answer. It results often in cutting if you don’t take care. I just reacted because of the last sentence of this question.
I’m aware of the bug that has been fixed in the most recent release, thanks for that. It was for fluid boxes.

Not denying what you say Lieve.. but the problem could be different in this case where answer items are getting cut on tablet and mobile devices or on preview when moving the responsive slider.. also again specific to fluid box responsive..where answer items go beyond answer area in edit area.. and appeared cut in runtime .. which we are dynamically handling in runtime now.

Thanks,
Aditya

Are you sure to have enough real estate for the answers? The quizzing master slides, which are also used for KC slides, do not allow to increase the height of individual answers. You can only make the answer area as high as possible. For responsive projects with Fluid Boxes that will probably mean decreasing the height of the other fluid boxes. You can have a look at my blog post about Fluid boxes for Quizzes, where I show how to handle those longer answers. A similar technique can be used for non-responsive projects/

Hi Allen,
I guess you are referring to this problem specific to responsive project?
If yes, then look for Captivate update for 2017, under Help>Updates, this should solve the problem where we take care in runtime of proper wrapping of answer items.
let us know if that helps!

Regards,
Aditya
