Adobe Captivate (2019 release)

Having used Adobe Captivate for approaching nine years, I am very excited by the new 2019 release, in relation to enhancing courses for greater user knowledge retention, usability and take up.

There are many welcome new features (with a shout-out to 360° media support!) but, for me, the flagship new feature is the addition of Interactive videos! The ability to introduce overlay slides to a YouTube streamed (or native) video is excellent, and opens many creative possibilities.

Finally, I must complement the Captivate design team on the improvement to Fluid boxes – the fluid box concept worked well for me in Captivate 2017 but I wished that I could have had greater control in positioning the boxes – this has been corrected in 2019, plus the addition of a more intuitive interface in the Properties panel. I suppose one minor gripe is that the ‘squeeze in a row’ option isn’t the default choice (as this is the option I use the most).

So, all-in-all, I am highly satisfied with this new release and I look forward to the opportunity to work with all its enhancements.

Totally agree witsetting Interactive video on the first place, it is indeed a much easier workflow with the overlay slides than what I used to do in the past. I am still exploring the minor improvements no one is talking about before posting my review on CP2019. I have een offering a training last week about this release. Explaining the Fluid Boxes workflow is a lot easier with this version, although I had hoped some of the limitations would have been taken away. The hotspots on 360 image/workflow is so intuitive that almost no training is neefed. However I suppose most of my future blogs will be illustrated with interactive video.
