Recently there have been some discussions about Adobe Captivate 2019 and Windows 10’s inability to interact properly with one another.

Some issues occurring once Adobe Captivate 2019 is installed on a PC, Laptop, or Mac running the Windows 10 operating system are:

  • Receiving a fatal error message
  • Adobe Captive 2019 fails to launch
  • Inability to simultaneously open more than one project
  • And a few other issues

These issues have also been known to occur in previous versions 9 and 2017 of Adobe Captivate. However, Adobe Captive 2019 is the focus of this article.

Now, of course, these issues are none existent to most users.  However, a few have had unpleasant and rather frustrating experiences.

Tip and Trick:

Caution: Use at your own risk

If you are one of the few who has experienced the issues mentioned above, the following tip and trick may possibly ease your unpleasant and frustrating experiences.

Many users have suggested running Adobe Captivate 2019 as an administrator.   However, an additional tip and trick could possibly assist in resolving some of the friction.

Compatibility Mode in Properties

Steps:

  1. Locate the Adobe Captivate 2019 icon
  2. Right-click on the icon and select properties
  3. Click on the Compatibility tab
  4. Under Compatibility mode select “Run this program in compatibility mode for:
  5. Select the appropriate earlier version of Windows.
  6. Under “Privilege Level” select “Run this program as an administrator”.
  7. Click Apply and then Ok.

Refer to my image below showing an example:

What are some of the tips and tricks you have used to ease this unpleasant and frustrating experience?

This program worked on Friday October 2nd, but when I tried to launch it on Monday, October 5th it wouldn’t launch. Using the event viewer it stops working when it reaches the msvcr110.dll. I tried reinstalling the dll but to no avail. Adobe says it’s a windows issue. I am so frustrated. I’ve wasted hours trying to fix this….and I do not want to rebuild my machine! Grrr!

In all my answers on the forum, I always add the ‘Run as Administrator’ requirement, Captivate even warns about it in some circumstances. That screenshot is in my library of those to be posted regularly.

Since Win10 appeared,  I do run CP9, CP2017 and now CP2019 without any issues on two different Win10 systems, one of them being a Surface Pro.

A problem which occurs often is however the Display Percentage, which normally is set by Win10 to improve the readability and which, in case of high %, can lead to problems.

Have you experienced slowness issues using Windows 10 on 2017 or 2019?  I am currently using CP9 (in compatibility mode as administrator) and am experiencing a 2-3 second response time for every action within captivate (if modifying multiple items, delay increases).   Project and cache files are saved locally.

Have you experienced this? If so, was it improved by upgrading versions?

My hope was that they improved compatibility with 2017 or 2019 versions, but according to your article, it sounds like they did not.  Any other tips to improve response time?
