There is a sample CSV file packaged with Captivate and it is can be found in the installed directory at the location “Adobe Captivate 2019 x64/Gallery/Quiz/SampleQuestions.csv”.
Using an excel macro to generate the CSV file
There is an Excel macro file (CSVQuestionsCreationMacro.xlsm) available in the captivate installed directory at the location “Adobe Captivate 2019 x64/Gallery/Quiz/CSVQuestionsCreationMacro.xlsm”. The instructions on how to use the macro to generate the CSV file is provided within the macro. The generated CSV file can be then imported to Captivate. All the validations will be taken care of by the macro.
How to import?
- Adding questions as slides
- In Captivate, Click Import CSV Format File from Quiz
- Select the CSV file which contains the question in the pre-defined format.

Did you use the included excel template to create the CSV file?Nederlandstalig?
The limitation at this moment, compared with GIFT import, is that you cannot define partial points for a MCQ with multiple correct answers, which is possible with the original GIFT files.
I also regret that you cannot edit the third sheet from which the CSV file is exported, which I often need for localisation purposes. When editing the exported CSV file, there is an error in the last field of each question, which I logged. All has been explained in a recent blog post on this portal:
