Above is a quick introduction to echo3education‘s new Office Safety Training course.

The video highlights how, by combining the eLearning power of Captivate with various tools within the Creative Cloud, virtually anything is possible.

Illustrator is of course a fantastic tool for creating unique and visually interesting ‘Assets’ to support your message.  We like to use two fictional characters in many of our safety courses – a bear and a girl.  The bear is the foil to the girl’s sometimes serious messages.  The idea is that the slight comedic element the bear introduces serves as a reward for the learner as they progress through the course.

Having two characters is also loosely based the educational theories of Social Constructivism – a very powerful force in learning that I write a little more about here.

Audition is the perfect tool to bring our character’s voices to life.

After Effects is our next go to tool.  With the inbuilt effect Keylight 1.2 we like to ‘humanise’ our eLearning content through the use of videos so that a real instructor can talk directly to the learner.  After Effects is also great for creating motion graphics to further bring key messages to life.

Media Encoder then ensures we can output the videos in a small enough file size to mitigate any reduction in learner experience through buffering.

2019 for us will be the year for utilising Character Animator so our learners can look forward to more movement in our bear and girl characters.  This opens up many possibilities to introduce more humour and visual engagement to sell our clients’ messages even more memorably to our learners.

If you have any other tools that you use with Captivate please let us know.  We would be delighted to learn from your ideas!

Cheers!

Alex

Make it part of Creative Cloud.  We are not made of money!

Captivate is not part of the Creative Cloud and probably never will be. There are several reasons, like the fact that CP still has a perpetual license, is not considered to be creative enough  etc

I am sorry but you need to either buy a perpetual license or have a separate subscription license.

Thanks for sharing!  I love that you’re emphasizing how many other tools can be used even for a small project!

One of my motos: ‘never give up’….. launching feature requests and bug reports for Captivate. I would love to see the roundtripping with Illustrator to be improved and working, to have collaboration with Character animator, easier workflow for embedding Animate animations etc…..

Thanks for posting. I am really astonished however that the tool which collaborates best with Captivate, Photoshop, is not even mentioned. I use it daily with Captivate. Illustrator roundtripping is even non existent, there are quite a lot of issues with creation and use of SVG’s, which is the main reason why I use Illustrator for assets. Audition is my favourite tool for audio clips, either recorded in Captivate or directly in AU. However the former way of roundtripping with AU where you could move the slide markers is not recommended at all at this moment. AE is OK if necessary but what about Animate, the queen of Animations?

So many ways to use CC for CP assets, just hope that Character Animator files will be easier to import in a future CP-release.
