As an Instructional Designer working with Captivate, as well as other Adobe software you’re most likely a very creative person who enjoys crafting visuals for your eLearning courses. To keep your skills sharp and get inspired, it’s helpful to make use of the many design-related resources available online. Here it is also great to look beyond the field of instructional design and branch out into other areas such as UI/UX design, graphic design or motion graphics. Below I’ve listed some of my favourite YouTube channels that help me discover new tools and new ways of working:

  1. Flux
    https://bit.ly/2qxop2N
Flux is the channel of Israeli designer Ran Segal. The successful creative releases a new video daily (and has done so for several years). He speaks directly into the camera, telling about his struggles and victories as a web and branding designer, reviews design portfolios and walks viewers through design case studies. The designer who until recently was busy doing client work, as well as working on his own product-based business has now pivoted to become a full-time content and online course creator.
  2. Charli Marie TV
    https://bit.ly/1VEAdfu
This channel – run by New Zealand designer Charli Marie – offers lots of great design-related content. There’s a good mix of tutorials, web design process and ‘day in the life of a remote designer’ vlogs.
  3. Jesse Showalter
    https://bit.ly/2OR4h6N
Jesse Showalter is a Front End Developer and Designer – while his channel is heavily focussed on web, ui and ux design, it contains reviews and tutorials and tricks on a variety of design tools that might be useful for anyone creating visuals for their eLearning courses. Also, it is often good take a peek into other disciplines and see how other creative professionals do their work.
  4. The Futur
    https://bit.ly/2eCrYjk
The Futur (without an e) – Chris Do and his team at motion design agency Blind – gives lots of great advice for experienced as well as new freelance designers. From finding clients to discussing pricing and overcoming customer objections, there is lots of content that is useful for any creative wanting to lift their game and business chops.
  5. Chase Jarvis
    https://bit.ly/2VBScqm
Chase Jarvis is a successful US photographer and entrepreneur (he is also the founder of course platform Creative Live). On his YouTube channel he interviews a variety of successful creatives and business people (including Seth Godin, Jason Fried or Ryan Carson). There are also a variety of videos giving advice on tech gear, business and more.

Feel free to check out any of the channels mentioned above. And if you’ve got any useful YouTube channels that might come in handy for eLearning professionals than post them down here in the comments!

No worries Christian, I’m glad I could help! I’ve done a little bit of front end dev myself, mainly HTML/CSS but first and foremost I’m a Designer. Jesse really puts out great content (and seems like I nice guy – I don’t know him personally), so definitely check him out.
