Learn to learn with Captivate !…
I'm a former teacher (and headmaster) in french primary schools. Now I work as a freelance on the net as a webmaster. I used to work with Flash for many years, but now I'm starting to discover Captivate and find it amazing !...

Hello Captivaters !…

Today, I want to talk about the way the learners learn… Many searchers have prooved that the learners use mostly one sens to learn (even if in fact, it’s far more complicated than that !!!…)

So the learner could be mostly “visual”, “auditic” or “kinesthetic”…

And here is a test to determinate which of these senses you use most.

Sorry again… It’s in french !… (But if you’re interested to translate it, I will be glad to share this project !…)

Play

(This test is made for young children, accompanied by their parents)

But I must emphasize that this is not 100 per cent true… And the senses play a role in only 20 per cent of what we learn. In fact the best way to learn is to interact with others. It depends also on the motivations…

But we can all be sure that Captivate gives us the opportunity to act on all the senses and that’s why I love it !…

So… Happy Captivating !!!…

It’s a good topic.  There is a fascinating and a very popular course on Coursera, free, which I highly recommend,m if someone is interested in this topic – “Learn How To Learn.”  It’s one of their most popular courses on that topic.  Over 2.4 million people took it.  And it’s really well done.

Bien sur! But for those who do read only the start and then post ‘Very helpful’…. maybe they would never read the comments neither. So frustrated by all those ‘big’ theories which appear and disappear regularly. What I miss most in any elearning tools is that you cannot use ‘odors’.  Les parfums…. cela manque beaucoup.  Most efficient training is happening when you can raise emotions, and/or have peers engaged in the training.

I’m not convinced that the odors could play a big role in learning ??? Just rising emotions as you said…

I wrote in the post “In fact the best way to learn is to interact with others. It depends also on the motivations…”

Captivate is great for visual or auditory learnings… And “gamification” is a way to produce emotions !

Conclusion : Captivate is great !!!… (I’m sure you agree with me this time !)

Sure I do agree, and it can become even greater. Do not underestimate how odors can be very powerful. And no compliance rules needed…

Tend to disagree with this, I know it is a ‘old’ theory but based on my decades of experience with training many different topics (from flute to ICT over lot of very tough building topics like Soil Mechanics) my conclusion is that most learners use a lot of senses to learn…. You have to know that I have been teaching children, young adults and even rather ‘old’ workers.

Hello my dear Lieve !

Did you read all the post ? I thought I clearly wrote that this theory is not true !!…

In french I could say : “C’est du pipeau !…” (Le jeu de mot est bienvenu je crois mdr !)
