I have a number of questions to ask my learners that require a long answer and many different answers are correct. I would like for my learners’ answers to be sent via email or through an LMS to their supervisor to be checked, just so that the supervisor can be sure that the learner is taking in the information correctly. Is this possible, and if so, how?

Hi, I wish to have the Captivate entry box entries summarized into a single document where I could see all learner answers for a particular TEB, I recently designed a captivate course containing about 4 TEBs where learners get to answer in essay form and hence there’s no single correct answer. Is it possible to do this in Captivate (advanced actions) or how could this be done in an LMS?

Whether that is easy in the LMS depends on the LMS: extracting values of user variables from the interaction data?

In Captivate it is easy: insert all the variables in a text container. Use the X button in the Character part of the text container to do so.

I am attempting the same thing. I do understand that with a text entry box, it is possible to have the “entered” text appear on another slide using an advanced action, but what Olivia (I think) is asking, and me too, is would it be possible to have the “entered” text be sent to the LMS so someone can read/grade it. An essay question. I can probably use a fillable form from google forms and link to it to get the desired result and read from there, but then I wouldn’t know which learner it came from.

You don’t need an advanced action to show the text. I had answered, but with many questions in my head to understand this question.

It depends on the LMS functionality. In my career at the university college, we used a LMS based on Blackboard, and the value of the variables associated with Text Entry Boxes were readable in the LMS. Those are user variables, which are transmitted by the SCO protocol, but heard they are not always to be found easily in all LMSs.

Were you able to solve the problems? Did the answer I posted a while ago help?

The question itself is bit confusing and conflicting with the title. A TEB is an interactive object and can be graded. The score will be automatically be included in the total score of the course, and transferred to the LMS.

However the number of input characters is limited.

As for sending by mail, that is a functionality which has been taken out a while ago because it leads to many problems and depends a lot on the way the learner set up mail client etc. Why do you need that if you have a LMS?

Hi, I have the same concern regarding an instructor/trainer/instructional designer wishing to see learners’ individual answers to check/redesign future elearning course. How do I do that in an LMS? Or is there a way to assign Captivate advanced actions to collate all learners’ individual answers similar to a a Google doc form individual answers summarized in an excel-type spreadsheet? Our preference is to retain the TEB in Captivate and be able to compile all learner TEB entries to a single document for checking/grading. The TEB was used for an essay question and the trainer needs to grade each learner response by analysing their answers.
