I’m trying to use the Text to Speech function in Captivate 2019 to add slide audio and I find it to be very robotic.

Does anyone else have this issue or am I doing something wrong?

Also, consider the hints and tips I include in my tutorial on text-to-speech here. Text to Speech Hints and Tips for Adobe Captivate

Take a look at Well Said Labs. I would link to their website but then this comment will get stuck in moderation. Google them and you can see some pretty good English voices. Much closer to human-sounding (think Siri quality). It doesn’t work with Captivate’s TTS but you can generate clips on their website and download the MP3s when finished. It’s a paid service that offers some free usage.

Sounds like it is a common issue….thanks for the input.   I will do my own voice overs and I usually do, but the TTS function would be a definite time saver if it worked better.  Too bad.

I only use TTS for temporary audio, also prefer to do VO myself.  Although some voices in English are acceptable. Which ones did you try? For Dutch I totally agree, forget about it (but my mother tongue is Dutch).

Hi Joe,

I did lots of tests with text-to-speech (in Dutch, English and French) about a year ago and:

  • voices are indeed robotic, esp. in Dutch and French
  • you could try to improve the result (add silence, pronunciation etc.) but in the end it costs a lot of time and is not worth the effort in my honest opinion.
  • the interface contains a few bugs, at least in MacOS

In the end, I decided to record my own voice-overs. If I remember correctly you can also purchase other voice agents, but I didn’t look into that.
