Captivate – Create a hover state (If a learner hovers over “Item 1” then they will see “Item 2, State of New York”

I know there is a way to create a hover state in Captivate. Here is what I’d like the function to do:

If a learner hovers their cursor over an item (it could be a shape or image) then another item in a different location (a different place on the screen) will show its “hover” state.

In Articulate Storyline, this is how the trigger action would be written: If a learner hovers over “Shape 1” then “Show Hover State” of “Shape 2”

Can this be done in Captivate?

Thanks.

Dana

The approach to ‘triggers’ in Captivate is totally different, and in my mind has many advantages over the copy/paste approach of Storyline, but of course if you are used to that workflow CP’s workflow may seem more complicated.

Rollover states is a typical ‘InBuilt’ state for interactive objects in Captivate. Such a state means that it is mainly controlled by the ‘situation’, in this case hovering, and not by the developer. I suspect you are aiming only at laptop/desktop users which do have a trackpad or mouse to allow such hovering.

Hovering is NOT an event in Captivate, you would need to use either JS or the CpExtra widget by InfoSemantics which allows you to add events to a course. Anyway, you would need a custom state in the ‘other’ image, not a rollover state. Will post a link in a separate document about states in Captivate.

This can be done with Rollover Captions, Images, or Rollover Slidelets, depending on the type of content you want to display. The only caveat is that Rollover would be strickly for devices that use a mouse and would exclude mobile devices like tablets and smartphones. Here is a video I did about four years ago on these features in Adobe Captivate 9 (these features haven’t changed since then). https://youtu.be/ipJaoPl5klA
