Looking for an affordable and flexible LMS to host training modules for multiple clients, from small to bigger organizations.  What would you recommend?

Thanks, Agnes

Here is a great resource for LMS selection.

Often the folks making a selection don’t really know what questions to ask this book by Adobe’s own Katrina Marie Baker might be just the resource you’re looking for.

Hi Agnes,

Lieve already gave some tips.

I could not tell which LMS exist in your country, but Captivate Prime is a great platform, sorry not to work in my country, also has BlackBoard, SuccessFactors, Scorm Cloud, Docebo, Canvas etc, here in the company we use Moodle (OpenSourcce) as a test base. I have had current issues with LMS platforms in Brazil, developed by Brazilian Startups, not all work well with SCORM package and are giving me and the client a headache. Some startups, as problems with development software as Captivate, keep an eye out if the platform works well with SCORM, xAPI packaging.

Regards,

Thank you, fojool-br, especially for the list of potential candidates.  I’ve heard about BlackBoard, but never used them.  Docebo is pricey with upfront costs, but I liked their functionality.  They would make sense with a large client to absorb the cost.  SCORM definitely critical.  I’ll check out the others.

Thanks again!  Agnes

What do you mean by ‘affordable’ and how many learners do you have to manage? Lot depends on the ease of use, and that comes with a price. Captivate Prime is a very good LMS, works nicely with Captivate (of course) but may be above your budget,. Moodle in its simplest version is free, but you may need a programmer or pay more to have the functionality you want.

Thank you, Lieve.  Your advice is priceless, as always.  I guess my definition of affordability for an LMS would be under $5 per user per month, and a platform that allows me to pay as I grow my client base, rather than require a big check upfront, i.e. $10K or so.  Also, the ease of use is important for all, the administrator, the learner, and the instructor.  I know there are some amazing platforms out there with a ton of functionality, but I am a big fan of simplicity.  I’ve heard about the open-source Moodle platform, but the potential need for some additional programming, so obviously that would an additional cost.  I found TalentLMS and they seem promising, but I have no experience with them.  Thanks you!
