Can I crop a video I inserted onto a slide

I inserted a video onto a slide using the Media menu. The original video is 39 seconds and was recorded on my mobile using Reflector.  I have decided I would like to trim it down to 10 seconds and move onto another slide. How can I do that without removing the media from my slide and trimming it in another program?

Adobe Captivate 2019 11.5.4.613 on a Mac, MacOS Catalina.

Thank you

In Storyline you can trim and crop.

Trim means to change the duration by using head and tail editing to do as you wanted in your post.

Crop means to hide or mask part of the video so the frame size is different.

In Captivate you can trim as Lieve has told you using Video management.

If you want to mask or hide say the outer side edges of a video you can do that with a shape and save it out from Photoshop as a png file with the center area transparent. You just have to make sure that you use the proper timeline positioning especially in html5 Z order is important.

Thanks for explaining, I also suspected that the OP meant trimming, not cropping. You remembered me that I need to update this old post:

I did mention that as well, but you may have missed it or I was too concise: ‘A workaround could be to distribute the video over multiple slides’….. You talk about a workflow using Properties, but it can also be done with the Video Management panel.  If this is indeed the requirement, which was not totally clear to me.

While I agree with Lieve, that cutting the video to size would best be done in some external video editor, you actually can define the section of a slide video to be played on a particular slide within Captivate by selecting the video on the stage or in the timeline, and then click the ‘Edit Video Timing…’ button on the ‘PROPERTIES’ tab. In the dialog that opens you can drag the Start and End markers to the desired position. Only the section between the two will be played.

No way to do that for Event Video for all I know.

Captivate is not a video editor. You do have a pretty powerful editor if you record a Video Demo but for a video recorded with an external application normally you should edit it in that external application.

Cropping is not a correct term, but you meant trimming. A workaround could be to distribute the video over multiple slides, if I understand your requirement correctly.
