Adobe Captivate has been showing off it’s built in 360 degree VR. The interactions are limited and it VR always runs full screen. What if you wanted to provide instructions for the learner. Well, this video demos that it is possible to have the VR run within a standard Captivate screen. This also means all the other features (multistate objects, buttons, text captions, etc) are avaiable.
You can embed a VR 360 image in a blank Captivate slide. This gives you access to all the features of a normal Captivate slide and actions.
Hi Phil,
How would this appear in a VR headset? I assume this method is best suited for desktop, tablet and phone users. I would love to have more functionality for the VR projects so if this could be a workaround for VR headsets, it would be extremely interesting.
Thanks,
Sam
I tested a Captivate VR project in the browser of an Oculus Quest. I did go into VR but the buttons dit not work. Could this be a problem with the controler input? I’m new to VR, so still getting to know the ins and outs.
In an Embed situation, if you add a fullscreen button to the embed, would you be able to switch to VR mode?
Hi Sam.m,
I’ve uploaded a Captivate file here that has the VR embedded in a slide. I’m pretty sure that it won’t work with the head set as it’s a regular content slide , but I’m open to being wrong. Let me know if it works for you.
Johnathan,
I’m not sure why the buttons aren’t working. It may be a configuration/driver issue but I’m only guessing. I’d need to sit down and play with the technology to know for sure. Sorry I’m not much help on this.
Cheers
Phil
Hi Phil,
Thank you for this, I’ve just had an experiment and it is possible to use the 360 video but due to the size of the overall project/slides not scaling to VR headset view, the experience isn’t great and quite disorienting due to the slide/360 moving at the same time.
Definitely something to work on for Adobe to offer more features in VR mode 🙂
Thanks,
Sam
You’re right Sam. You can’t really get 360 video to play in a VR project in Captivate. The only way to get a video to play in a VR project is to have a local copy of the file. Using the URL won’t work. However, now that I’ve said that, I have been able to embed a VR object in a regular content slide. I’ll have to do some experimenting to see if I can get a 360 video to play as an object in a Captivate slide. Something to look into.
