Importing custom png for hotspots in 360 video

Hey there,

I’m having some trouble importing custom .png hotspots in my 360 video project. I was able to import a .jpeg, however it didn’t have a transparent background. Looking at tutorials online, it seems possible to import .png files in Captivate, so I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.

Could someone please provide some assistance on this matter?

Thanks,

Sahil

Also, make sure you are using the most up to date release of Adobe Captivate. This worked a little differently in the earlier releases of Adobe Captivate 2019. Click Help and then click Check for Updates. If you are in a corporate environment have your IT department get you the update. The most up to date version at the time of this writing is 11.5.1.499 for Windows and 11.5.4.613 for Mac OS.

You may need some explanation about the different bitmap image formats. JPEG doesn’t support alpha channel, which means no transparency. GIF format supports transparency, but only fully transparent pixels. PNG8 is same as GIF, but PNG24 or PNG32 supports alpha channel completely, including partially transparent pxiels. Best choice.

Could you provide a little more detail. It’s difficult to know what you might be missing if you don’t include the steps that you are taking. Here is a brief list of steps.

  1. Click the Hotspots icon in the Captivate toolbar
  2. Select Image icon at the button of the section
  3. Next to file name, change the type of file format from JPEG, JPG, to PNG
  4. Navigate to your PNG you wish to use and select it
  5. Click Open.

I just tested this again to be sure and worked fine.
