Numeric Characters as User Variables

I know user variables cannot begin with a numerical character. However, I’ve always been able to name user variables with numerical characters at the end of the variable name.

I named a variable Topic_2. Captivate accepted the variable upon creating it. I was able to successfully use it as a conditional action and was able to save that conditional action. However, when I tried assigning a literal value to Topic_2, upon saving the Advanced Action, it saved but it created a yellow caution sign to the left the Assign row and a blank drop down menu for the variable.

Is this something new to Captivate 2019? I haven’t experienced this in 2017.

You can use numbers in the name of a user variable so long as it’s not the first character. The exclamation icon is an indication that your line in the advanced action is somehow incomplete. For example, if I enter Expression tc_2 = CaptivateVersion + 1, but forget to select from the + – * / dropdown menu, the line is incomplete and I get the exclamation mark in the left column. Selecting the + or some other operator will complete it and the exclamation goes away.
