How to make the user interact with your software
(1)

Hi guys,

First of all thanks for your time. I´m thinking of using Captivate 2019 as plataform for an e-learning for my company. What I would like to do is replicate an action in a software designed by me and then let the user play in the same window I was explaining its content. For example, imagine I´m showing how to send an email by Microsoft Outlook. After a video showing how to do it, I would like that the user can interact with Outlook and then check if he/she could replicate the “send an email” action that I did previously.

Do you know if this is possible?. I only checked that some video demostration recording my actions is possible and insert some slides to do an evaluation or something like that, but couldn´t find any solution for my scenario.

Thank you in advance

Captivate has two possible workflows for screen capturing:

  • Video Demo, which is perfect for demonstrations, has a non-destructive video editor. It can be used to create a standalone mp4 published from the raw cpvc file. But you can also do the recording IN a normal cptx project to create a video slide. Editor remains available for that slide.
  • Software simulations; they record a slide-based simulation. It is possible in Demo mode, Training Mode and Assessment mode. The last two modes are INTERACTIVE: learner is supposed to do the activities. Not everything is possible however, the activities are limited to clicking somewhere and typing in text. You can add more interactivities like Drag&Drop slides, Knowledge Check slides, Quiz slides (eventually with reporting to a LMS).

For your use case I would recommend to create one or more cpvc slides for the demonstrations, where you show the workflow, and then complete with one or more software sim slides in Training or Assessment mode. You can complete with static slides a(titles, explanations, references material) and interactions.
