Captivate 2019 11.5.4.613 for Mac Crashes when setting Default caption text setting for simulation recording

I’m going to have to try and get a refund for my recent purchase of Captivate 2019 11.5.4.613 for Mac running on Catalina 10.15.5 because it is completely unstable and I’m unable to capture any software simulations.

Here are the steps I follow:

1. Record New Simulation

2. Settings

3. Recording/Settings/Default

4. Click on Text Captions drop-down to change the format of the object and I get the following bug:

Captivate unexpectedly quit.  Options to “Ignore, Report, Reopen”

Clicking on report reveals the following text:

Crashed Thread: 0 CrBrowserMain Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread

Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGABRT)
Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000020
Exception Note: EXC_CORPSE_NOTIFY

Termination Signal: Abort trap: 6
Termination Reason: Namespace SIGNAL, Code 0x6
Terminating Process: Adobe Captivate [1131]

I would prefer to use the Mac version but cannot waste any more time on this issue unless there is a simple fix.

Thanks, Mike (mlawgsu)

Any time your software unexpectantly quits I would recommend that you not post your problem in the user forum (we are just users like you), but instead reach out to Adobe for technical support. 1) they should be made aware of these types of issues and 2) they are far better equipped to address these sorts of concerns since they have the engineers to back them. You can reach Adobe technical support through their email address at CaptivateHelp@Adobe.com.

I am a Windows user, bit reluctant to offer a suggestion.  Text captions are the default for Software simulations, but whenever I install Captivate I immediately switch that to Smart Shapes which is consistent with all other features. This is possible from Preferences, Recording Modes where you find that option.
