Tracking Slide Visits and Stop Replay of Animations

Hi all,

I feel like I should know how to do this, but I’m a bit rusty on Captivate right now. I have a Forward button that isn’t showing until the audio finishes (compliance course) and on some slides, I have text animations.

I’d like to track the slide visits so when the Back button is clicked, it will automatically show the Forward button on the previous slide, but ALSO jump to the point in the timeline where the animation has finished so they don’t need to watch the text animate again.

How should I best accomplish this with variables and advanced actions? Is it possible?

Thanks,

Kristen

Hi Kristen, I found a similar problem with a different approach and I found it really helpful.

That is an old solution which I have described many years ago. It has one big disadvantage: you are not able to use CC if you don’t use slide audio. Just FYI.  If you find that solution easier than just reusing a shared action and entering a parameter AND you are sure not to need CC, go ahead.

Other possible problems with using Play Audio are explained in this blog:

I hope you are aware of the fact that Text Animations are Flash-based and not compatible with HTML output?

For your first question, you need to look for ‘Force first view’ amongst the blogs here. I have published several workflows to achieve this. What is the best one depends on the complete setup of your slide. One of the most recent blogs I wrote use micro-navigation and a shared action. The shared action can also be used for slides where you do not want to repeat slide audio on later visits. Have a look at:

The creation of the shared action is explained in a later blog, for which I will post the link in a second comment.
