Minor differences for how the learner, or user, engages with a hotspot activity, how/what initially and eventually displays, and what signals progression can help to create variances in hotspot activities.

For example, the hotspot interaction may trigger content by clicking an individual object, an object that overlays an image, or a designated section of an image.

Considering the above, below are 3 ways you might present your next hotspot activity.

1. Click to Reveal (v1)
DESCRIPTION: This hotspot method may trigger information to display in a panel or “pop-up.” Additional content may or may not cause the content presented before or after to automatically close and hide from view.

2. Click to Reveal (v2)
DESCRIPTION: This hotspot method may also be referred to as click to replace and the result of a click appears near, but outside of the hotspot activity area and is replaced with the content from clicks that follow.

3. Click to Complete or Make Whole
DESCRIPTION: This hotspot method aims to reveal piece-by-piece a complete image, process, etc. to relay the bigger picture that is made up of various components revealed with each click.

The piece-by-piece by reveal can also be changes to how the original imagery displays. For example, the original image may be presented in black and white and as the learner clicks through, parts of the image appear in color or highlight the corresponding part in one particular color and act more as a highlight.
