Problem viewing a course on my mobile with slides that have event videos and a button that appears at the end
(14)

Hello to all,

I’m having a problem viewing a course on my mobile with slides that have event videos and a button that appears at the end.

The problem comes when I am in a slide that carries the event video. I have placed a button, to go to the next slide, which appears at the end of the video taking into account how long the video lasts (even if the timeline of the slide does not control the one of the video). And everything works fine if I watch the course on a computer: the video ends and the “Continue” button appears and moves to the next slide. In the next slide I have put a variable that checks that the video has been seen and if you return to the slide of the video the button “Continue” (one that was hidden) is and you do not have to wait for the time that the video lasts.
But when you watch the course on the mobile, the video opens in another tab, and when you finish and return to the course tab, the button that should appear does not appear until you wait the time the video lasts.

I guess what is happening is that when the video is opened in another tab, the slide playback stops. I tried not to play the video automatically and force to click on the video to see if it started playing the timeline, and also to put when entering the slide the action “Continue” although I could think that would skip to the next slide, but neither one thing nor the other …

Any idea to solve the problem?

Any reason why you don’t want to use slide video, which is much easier to control?

In principle I don’t want to use it because the users after watching the video can’t go to any part of the video since it doesn’t have a playbar, and the general project playback control is hidden. I may be wrong but I think it works like that when I have tried it…

You can add bookmarks to slide video and/or add KC slides or more information to get an interactive video. It is also possible to create a slide playbar, but that is bit more complicated.

Have a look at this example of an interactive video with a bookmark menu:

Custom Play/Pause button

I have a blog explaining the creation of the bookmark menu. Personally I like that better than just having a playbar.

With interactive videos I have worked a bit, and I am able to put a playbar with buttons that take you to a specific frame with the variable cpCmndGotoFrame. In this case, the project has 9 videos (and many other slides between them) and I found it easier to use event videos than having to create buttons in each interactive video and deciding which parts of the video to take with the buttons and having to calculate the frames for each video. They are videos that the user has to review and go forward and backward to review data (invoices) to specific parts that they have to decide and have all the freedom, so the playbar seems to me more effective in this case.

Anyway if I can not solve the display of the mobile with the forward button, I will have to silver these options, or assess to what extent it is necessary to display on the mobile

Anyway, thank you very much for the help Lieve

Each slide video can be used as interactive video. No need for the system variable cpCmndGotoFrame in that type of videos, just add bookmarks which are much easier to use than having to design action with micro-navigation. Even if you don’t use the other features (like KC slides) in interactive video, only the bookmarks with a menu displayed for the rest of the project can be a quick solution to replace the playbar. Better solution, because the learner will be able to navigate directly to a specific part of the video.  Have a look at my solution which I used in that example video:

Thank you very much Lieve, the truth is that the Jump to a marker is a marvel, and now you can put it as a simple action. At some point, about a year ago, it didn’t work for me when I put it as an advanced action and I completely forgot about that option that of course saves a lot of time!

I don’t know what I will do at the end of this project but of course this option for interactive videos is the right one!

Hi Maria,

Thanks for reporting this issue. Can you please share the CPTX project with us (using a file sharing service) at CaptivateHelp@Adobe.com

We’ll take a look at it and get back to you with a resolution.

Hi Maria,

From the first look of it, it doesn’t seem possible to stop the course from pausing while the video is playing on a parallel window. The team is looking for a workaround for it and will get back to you.

Meanwhile, did you try using the Slide Video option, as Lieve suggested?

Hi Ponjaa,

What Lieve suggested I do keep in mind in case there is no solution. For me it would be perfect if the video did not open in a new window, I imagine that it is one of the possibilities that they are looking for in the Adobe team.

Thank you very much for listening, I’ll be waiting for the team to contact me

And thank you very much for your help,
