Accessible
Dear Dr. Pooja Jaisingh,
Any news on a new version of Captivate coming out this year that will help with producing fully Accessible projects?
Thanks!
I’m also curious to the answer to this question. Earlier today, I traced earlier Adobe Captivate release and there’s no consistency: It’s usually once in two or three years, and there’s even one case of three-year gap. Trying to decide whether to buy CP 2019 now or wait for the next version.
Hi Gretenvicke,
You can safely purchase Captivate 2019 now. We pushed an update for Captivate 2019 a few months back, but did not change the version as they were small changes to the product.
I would love to see more customization for quiz slides. I’m fighting the size of my submit button, having options in multiple choices line up (after adding more options), and the size of the select choices, I can’t figure out what determines the size of these.
Hi Wollmans, can you please write to us at CaptivateHelp@Adobe.com and we will help you with it.
Hi Pooja. Thanks for your response! I know there are accessibility features in Captivate but we need more control. For example, we need to be able to easily hide items from screen readers (SR). If we have an item or piece of text we don’t want read by the SR we have to put a blank space in the accessibility box. In Storyline it’s a simple checkbox. The best accessibility feature Storyline offers is Slide layers. Slide Layers can be added to any Slide Timeline and with a click of an option box everything on the timeline can be hidden from the SR. This allows us to trap the user inside of a popup. This helps the user keep control of where they are inside the course. So for example if they select a button which launches a popup window they can only TAB through the popup. With the selection of a Close button then they can go back to the main timeline. We also need better built in Navigation buttons/controls. The quality does not compare to Storyline. The buttons are very soft. Storylines buttons are nice and crisp as is its text. It’s more like real text in a browser vs rendered text. I would love to continue this conversation. On a Non-Accessible note I love how SL handles their triggers. Out in the open where you can see them vs buried in a window. Also the small scrolling windows where we are forced to scroll through to find variables or buttons names is very time consuming. There are things that I love about Captivate but with our Clients STRONG 508 requirements Captivate makes it more difficult than it needs to be. Thanks for your time! Russ
Hi Russ,
Thank you so much for sharing the detailed feedback. This is really helpful. I’ll pass it on to the engineering team so that they can track it for future updates/releases of Captivate. Can I or someone from our team reach out to you if we need any further details about these workflows? Please let me know.
Thanks,
Pooja Jaisingh
Dr. Jaisingh, Huge fan of yours and value my selfie with you at a conference. LOL. While Rise is VERY limited, I do like the ability to scroll down like a webpage. This makes it seem less “slide like”. Would this be a feature Captivate could incorporate? Best regards. Mark
