Fatal error while running mp4 video in Captivate 2019
(6)

I have been trying to insert an MP4 video in Captivate 2019, but every time I try to preview it, I get the below fatal error. This video is in H.264 output, around 36 GB in size.

I’m having the exact same problem with an mp4 that is under 10 mg. I have watched some of Paul’s tutorials (Thanks Paul!!!) I set Run as Administrator. Restarted. Cleared my cache. Have plenty of hard drive space. Captivate used to crash all the time on my old laptop; but no problems on new one since I upgraded… until now. Yesterday, I output the edited video in Pinnacle studio 24 as an mp4; and tried to upload it and Captivate wanted to convert it to an FV (flash video) but stalled out in the conversion. So I took the video into AME (media encoder), and it turned my 5mg file into 8mg mp4… okay… this new file is giving the fatal error when I try to change the length of the video per slide / edit the video duration under video properties (per Paul’s great video on inserting video over multiple slides).  And BOOM! every time… I’m wondering if perhaps there is something in Studio’s mp4 codec, or something corrupting the video when it Encodes it in ME; but both videos play fine outside of Captivate.  Any thoughts would be appreciated! ck

If you re-encoded the file with AME, the codec would be fine.  You inserted it as ‘slide video’, not as event video. That seemed to work all right as well or do I misunderstand? The crash only happens when you try to use the Video Editing to split the video over multiple slides? Why would you need that if it is a rather short video?

I would get Adobe Technical Support involved. When the software crashes it’s doubtful that one of us could troubleshoot that for you. Email them at captivatehelp@adobe.com for faster solutions.

Take a look at this video about optimizing video for eLearning.

https://youtu.be/1j43vcFZNX0

My guess is you are providing your eLearning course with a video that is either extremely long or extremely high resolution. Reducing the resolution and the bit rate (how many megabits per second) will provide a better experience for you to publish but for your learners as well.

If you still have problems running Captivate you might try resetting the interface back to factory settings. Here’s a video on how to do that.

Is this correct: 36GB? How will you be able to run that without streaming on any system?  H264 is a compressed format, which means that each learner should have to download 36GB before being able to watch the course? How much free space do you have on your primary SSD or HD?

If it is a typo, ignore my comment.
