Opens in 2017, but not 2019

Hi all,

I’m having an issue where a number of projects won’t open in Captivate 2019. I get a “could not open” error message.

I happen to still have 2017 loaded, and the files open without any issue in 2017. When I save them there, the message indicates they were originally created in Captivate 8. BUT, even after saving a new copy in 2017, they still won’t open in 2019.

I’m at a loss as to what else to try to get them to open in 2019. Anyone have any tips?

Thanks in advance!
Jeff

Please do not confuse a user, what do you mean by ‘file type’?

First, annoyingly, I didn’t get notified of either of your responses here, so sorry for not replying earlier.

The solution appears to have been the fix released last weekend(?) – but my first attempt at installing that failed, and then I was forced into a Windows update which removed 2019 from my Program Files list altogether, and then I reinstalled it, and now it seems to be working.

So… thanks for the suggestions! All good now.

That is great! I know how annoying it is that you don’t automatically get notifications but need to set them up. I guess that about 90% of the answers I write are never read… feel so stupid.

Hi,

As suggested by Lieve, try to clean the preferences for CP 2019 by closing it first and then navigate to “C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 2019 x64\utils” and run the “CleanPreferencesWin” Or “CleanPreferencesMac” depends on the OS you are using. Then, launch Cp 2019 and try to open the Captivate 2017 project and see if that works?

If it doesn’t work, please send an email to CaptivateHelp@adobe.com and we would be happy to look into it and assist you further.

Or you can also contact us directly by clicking on the following link and initiate a chat with an expert- https://helpx.adobe.com/in/contact.html

Ajit

Very confusing. Normally you cannot open projects created in CP2019 in an older version. And when you try to save it is even talking about a very old version, CP8.  The label ‘CP2019’ stands for two releases: 11 and 11.5, whereas CP2017 is version 10.

Can you try to clean the Preferences for CP2019? Are you on Windows? Can you mention the full version number, please? You find it under Help, About Captivate.
