Adobe Captivate on M1 Mac – has anyone tested via Rosetta?

The M1 Macs have been around for a while now, and I need to update my Mac. However, I am not going to make the same mistake I made when upgrading to Big Sur, so instead want to ask the question. Has anyone tested Adobe Captivate on a M1 Mac using the Rosetta emulator?

I chatted with Adobe Captivate support online and asked them two questions:

  1. Is there a native version planned for silicon Macs (I know this is unlikely)
  2. Has Captivate been tested on M1 Macs using Rosetta

Getting answers to these questions was a little like pulling teeth. At first, they simply pointed me to the system requirements for Captivate. This does not help because, I already know there is no native version – but simply wanted to know if one was planned – and it doesn’t answer the question about Captivate using Rosetta.

Eventually I found out that no, there is no native version planned. So I am asking if anyone here has tested using Rosetta? What has been your experience?

Captivate doesn’t work on my Macbook Air M1. When I create a new project, I get a black screen. When I scroll down and on the left, I see my slide but then when I try to select something, the content jumps to another position or disappear.

I’ve been curious about this as well and although I’ve had my new M1 Mac Mini for about a month now it never occurred to me to try the new Big Sur build and see if it ran using Rosetta. Today I was able to download and install that on the M1 Mac Mini and after signing out on my older Intel based Mac I was successfully able to run Captivate on the M1. I fired up a completed project and all of the elements worked as expected including interactions, videos, play bar, etc.

I have yet to do a proper test by building a new course form scratch on the M1 but so far this initial test is encouraging. I had just assumed it wouldn’t work on this machine until it an M1 optimized version was released, but as you stated it sounds like that is not in the plans for Adobe. I’ll try to follow up on this post with another update once I can test more. I’m running an M1 Mac Mini 256GB SSD and 16GB RAM.
